Most funds hold derivatives such as futures, options or swaps. Some of them can be in long and / or short position in certain extents.
Hedge funds are leveraged funds which may employ long and short position strategies as well as derivatives. It allows for specific risk exposure targeting while avoiding or hedging away unwanted risks.
