Why handling fee will be triggered when foreign currency transaction is settled in Hong Kong Dollars?

• You can also choose to settle in Hong Kong Dollars when you conduct foreign currency transactions that made with merchants outside Hong Kong, or online merchants whose place of registration and/or settlement are outside Hong Kong. Such option is a direct management offered by the merchants outside Hong Kong, or online merchants whose place of registration and/or settlement are outside Hong Kong, but not the credit card issuer. VISA / Mastercard / American Express impose a charge of 1% of DCC transaction posted amount on the Bank. The Bank will therefore charge the same on the customers (except for DBS Live Fresh Card) effective from 4 January 2024. In such cases, customers are reminded to ask the merchants for the foreign currency exchange rates and the percentage of handling fees to be applied before the transactions are entered into since settling foreign currency transactions in Hong Kong dollars may involve a cost higher than the foreign currency transaction handling fee.

How do I know the fee incurred in such foreign currency transaction settled in Hong Kong Dollars?
